Phuket, A Dream Holiday Destination For Many

Phuket! What comes to mind? A walk along the breathtaking white sand beaches, chilling under a palm tree sipping on some cosmos feeling a little expensive, watching the sunset, island hopping, walking along the streets full of clubs, pubs and go go bars? All that and more is so true about Phuket, thats why it has since became a popular dream destination for many, even A List celebrities travel there on family vacations, The Kardashians have done it, Brangelina too, just to mention a few.

I for one had a chance to visit the Island in 2015 too, I had not started my blog hence never shared about it. The place was incredible, though some people say its not as good as it was 10 year ago Im like;
 I have not seen it 10 years ago so I dont have anything to compare it with, so to me its beautiful, simple as that.
I got a 3 weeks job in Phuket, I then decided to head there a week earlier and visited a friend, hence explored the town a little before I got busy. I later moved closer to where I was working which was literally a stone throw away from one of the beaches in the town, no it wasnt the famous Patong beach but nonetheless it was a beach (I sorta kinda forgot the name) it was in one of the area which was hit by Tsunami 10 years ago, that is, in 2004.
Due to the damage of my memory card, I have lost so many of my Phuket memories, it’s sad, real sad.
Anyways, like I said, Phuket is an incredible place to visit and I enjoyed every minute I spent there and all the activities and attractions I got up to. I have few pictures from my Phuket trip which some of them are from the most sort after attractions in the town.
I guess I won’t be posting about the white sand beaches since those memories have gone down the drain. This would be something different from many posts about Phuket that I come across because it won’t be focus on the BEACHES

These are some of the famous Attractions that I got to see:

1.  Old Phuket town

My friend and I drove through the old Phuket town, the towns architecture caught my eye, a mix of colonial and Chinese architecture. The place was also filled with lots of cafes and very stunning art galleries. Having read about the town prior to the visit, we drove past the Thalang Road, which is the main street and considered to be the historical heart of the town. Apparently most of the old buildings have been renovated into cafes and shops, however the SINO PORTUGUESE building in Thalang Road its still intact and its one of the main attraction in the Old Phuket town. A brief history about the old Phuket town can be read here -   PHUKET.COM

2.  Big Buddha

This is actually a new development to the town, it is located in Nakkerd hills, the place has since became a common tourist attraction site because of its magnificent view of Chalong Bay, Kata and the Andaman Sea as well as a full 360 degrees view of the whole southern part of Phuket.
It stands at 45 metres tall with a base of 25 metres and built from reinforced concrete and adorned with white Burmese jade marble. It is known as Phra Puttamingmongkol Akenakkiri Buddha amongst the locals. The structure is built from donations hence the slow progress, it was still in progress when I visited in 2015.

One piece of advise, if you are to visit this place, COVER UP, avoid short skirts/dresses, shorts, vest etc. The place is free of charge or youll have to pay a fee for a sarong to cover covered up.

3.  Wat Chalong

Located between Phuket town and Chalong, Wat Chalong is the largest of the many Phuket temples. It is one of the most important Temple in Phuket and a symbol of Thailand. The temple has been dedicated to the two selfless monks Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang who helped the town through their knowledge of herbal medicines during the war between the Chinese Rebellion.
Locals come to the temple to pray and most tourists visit the place in a quest to learn and gain knowledge about the culture and about Buddhist.

4.  Bangla road Patong
This street comes to live at night, its full of pubs, bars with lady boys dancing from poles and some from the glass windows of the clubs. The place offer relatively the same services but there are special kinda clubs that offer shows like Ping Pong Shows If you know a little about Asia youll know that Ping Pong here doesnt really mean the ping pong we know. One more thing,the street is nosier than Hanoi during rush hour.

Some of the other things that I did which I think were cool;

A floating restaurant
Just in the hidden corner of the town, the restaurant is reached by a small long tail boat. Im not a huge fan of sea food but I must say, the food tasted good and I really enjoyed the fresh fish, prawns and squids. we took amazing pictures of the sunset and of course ourselves.

Layan Beach
During my stay there, I also had a chance to take my students, (Yes I am a teacher), to a beach on a field trip.

Koh Sirey Temple
The temple stands on a 60M tall hill and gives a great view of Phuket and a small sea gypsies village known as Cha Ley and it’s said these gypsies were the first inhabitants of the Andaman costal region of Malaysia and Thailand.

These are some of the snaps I got from Phuket.

If you wish to travel to Thailand Phuket getting a tourist visa in your home countries is the easiest. Just get in touch with any Thai embassy or consulate near you and get going.
