Gong Xi Fa Cai - Happy Chinese New Year 2016

It’s that time of the year where countries influenced by the Chinese culture get to celebrate the New Year – Chinese New Year. I love this time of the year because I get a LONG break from the ‘rat race’.
This time around I got a 2 weeks break from work and I got to travel as usual, I’ll however share about my travel on a different post and that won’t be today.
Chinese New Year, which is traditionally called Lunar New Year, is celebrated at the turn of the traditional Lunisolar of the Chinese calendar. Each year the New Year is categorised by one of the 12 animals that appear on the Chinese Zodiac Signs and this year we are on the 9th Zodiac animal which is the Monkey.
2016 is a year of the RED FIRE MONKEY and it’s celebrated on the 8th of February 2016 (today).
What’s a Year of Monkey?
Like the year says, it’s a year of the monkey and everyone who’s born in this cycle in the Chinese Lunar Calendar is said to be a ‘Monkey’. Monkeys are deemed to be smart animals, therefore, people born during this year (Cycle) are smart, ambitious and generous just to mention a few. However, according to Chinese beliefs, it’s a bad year for everyone who is born under this Zodiac sign hence if you follow it religiously, you ought to be cautious, take care of your health, finances and literally everything.
