Constructed
in September 1973 and inaugurated in August 1973, this is the largest memorial
centre where the Vietnam leader Ho Chi
Minh, who was the chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s body remains
has been kept. The Mausoleum comes as an inspiration form the Lenin’s Mausoleum
in Moscow, to honour him for his work saving Vietnam during the war. Ho Chi Minh died in September 1969 due
to heart failure.
The
structure stands at 70ft (22m) tall
and 135 (41m) feet wide. The exterior
of the structure is made from granite and the interior made of wood and all these
materials were contributed by people from all over the country.
If you
are to visit the place, make sure you dress modest, there is no cover charge but
its highly advisable that you cover up, no shorts, tank tops and revealing
clothes. Visitors are allowed to go in to see the preserved body daily between
0900hrs – 1100hrs.
I didn’t
make it inside, I was a little late but I got to see the security guards march
into the Mausoleum.
Location
The
place is Located in Ba Dihn Square
in Vietnam Hanoi. If you stay in the Old Quarter -Hanoi, which is the touristy
area, its 15 mins walk and on your way there you can stop by the WAR MUSEUM.
